Iowa State Final Reviews
Today was my Iowa State studio’s final review; an urban design project set in Des Moines’ Sherman Hill District. Studio projects are always a wild ride and never more so than in the Covid era. One the amazing benefits of teaching a ‘virtual’ studio, though, is that reviewers can join from ANYWHERE…just as long as they’re willing to wake up early or go to bed late, depending on the time zone. The students presented using Miro (a shared whiteboard platform) and Zoom. I am so proud of the thoughtful approaches they each developed in response to site and context. In addition to our trusty ISU faculty, reviewers hailed from Berkeley (Renee Chow), The Netherlands (Ted Sandstra), Germany (Thomas Kraubitz), and Scotland (Paul Stallan). It was a beautiful, highly relevant conversation.
